Rooted in Threads: A Tatreez Tote Bag Kit

$75.00

*A collaboration between Abuelita Fiber Company and Lina’s Thobe*

Reconnect to land, heritage, and yourself—one stitch at a time.

This isn’t just a tote bag. It’s a canvas for memory, resilience, and story. The Rooted in Threads Tatreez Kit is a collaboration born from love for Palestinian tradition and the sacred relationship between our people and the land.

Each element in this kit is intentionally chosen to help you experience Tatreez as our ancestors did: slowly, thoughtfully, and with deep reverence for the earth.

Inside the kit, you’ll find:

👜 A 100% cotton canvas tote;

🌿 Hand-dyed 20/4 Sashiko thread using cochineal (length of 22 yds);

🧵 Waste canvas, needle, hoop, sewing thread;

✂️ The cutest scissors ever;

💌 A card that shares the story and;

⏯️ Access to video tutorials!

Every thread in this kit has been hand-dyed using time-honored techniques with cochineal—a vibrant, earthy red dye derived from insects that live on cactus plants, once used throughout Palestine. The result is a color that carries meaning: love, strength, and the life force of our land.

✨ Is this kit beginner-friendly?

Not quite. Due to the thickness of the high-quality canvas tote, this project is better suited for intermediate Tatreez artists or confident beginners who are up for a challenge. It may require extra patience and care as you work your stitches into the fabric—but that’s part of the beauty of it.

This is a slow, mindful craft project that rewards persistence and presence.

Whether you’re continuing a family tradition or beginning a new one, this kit is your invitation to become part of a living, breathing heritage.
